132/367: The Thermals - We Were Sick

Here ye!  I’m determined to post at least somewhat relevant songs until I’m un-sick.

That is all.  Time for sick-work (what I call work when I’m sick).

The Thermals - Born to Kill

so short & so sweet.

For the sake of convenience/space/cost,

I buy most music online now.  Upside:  I can get 6 albums for like 30 bucks.  Downside:  It’s just digital numbers in a box & not a real thing with a inlay that I can smell & fold/unfold compulsively, therefore verifying its realness to me.  Anywhey, I spent my monthly self-allowance the other day & got this music (on eMusic…):

-The new single from The Thermals, “Born to Kill”.  The album it’s single-ing is Desperate Ground, & it’s coming out on Saddle Creek April 16.

-Speaking of Saddle Creek, I also bought a Tim Kasher single (& b-side) that was originally a 7”.  But of course, digital is inevitable these days.  Delirium Tantrums (& it’s b-side) is totally worth the $1 it cost.

-The NEW Veronica Falls album, Waiting For Something to Happen.  It’s like the 50’s, 60’s, 80’s, 90’s & now’s all wrapped into a shimmery C86 package.

-the NEW Nick Cave/Bad Seeds, Push the Sky Away. I haven’t listened to this yet, partly because I’m putting it off until I can enjoy it fully & also probably a little bit because I’m angry that I’m not going to Coachella & they’ll be performing (probably amazingly so).  I would REALLY like to go up to San Francisco in early April & see them (with opener SHARON VAN ETTEN, are you SERIOUS? [yes]), but I don’t know if that’s going to happen either.  It might.  Would probably drive.  Dunno.  But yeah, I’ll be checking this album out soonly.

-Two (2!) Low albums, 99’s Secret Name & 2011’s C’mon.  This group has a pretty hefty catalog, so I’m only now moving beyond the 2 albums I’m already familiar with of theirs.  They burn slow (as in -core) & cool (as in -cool).  I need to buy everything they’ve ever recorded as a band.

-Finally started buying Sparks albums, for my computer.  Got Kimono My House, which I have on record already (but hadn’t listened to all that much [as with most of my vinyl]).  Oh & they’re doing Coachella too.  I feel like the more I listen to them, the more they’re gonna become my biggest regret for not getting tickets.  If anyone reads this & goes to stupid Palm Springs in stupid April, see this band, please.  F’r’me.

-Also got the debut album “Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose”, by Beth Jeans Houghton & the Hooves of Destiny.  These folks are right up my alley.  Shit, they’re probably playing Coachella too, & I didn’t notice it.  Nope, just checked.  I did buy the new(est) Bat For Lashes last month, though, so, you know…….& cuz she’s/they’re playing…..so…..that’s…hrm.  I’ll go next year.

PRETTY GOOD FOR JUST UNDER 30 DOLLARS & NO THIS ISN’T A COMMERCIAL FOR E-MUSIC IT JUST HAPPENED TO TURN OUT THAT WAY & I’M SORT OF ASHAMED ABOUT IT SORRY BUY BUY.
